Day 2 – The Walking Dead

Our flight out of Philly went great. We have been getting two aisle seats when we fly to Europe in hopes of no one sits next to us. We won! I had two seats against the bulkhead and Janet had 4 seats empty next to her, which allowed us to stretch out and sleep.

The flight arrived 30 minutes earlier, and we began what was going to be the mantra of the day – walking. Madrid airport from your arrival to bag pick-up is quite a hike.

We collected our bags and caught a train to downtown. Little freaky, because the train was empty.

We were not 100% positive we were on the correct train, but after a 45-minute ride we were at our destination.

Another walk to the hotel, and we were ready to shower and explore… however, there were no rooms available for check in.

After admiring the themed walls of telephones and monkeys, we locked up our bags and hit the streets on foot.

There was a buzz at the Plaza Mayor. Today was the final day of a week of celebration. The bands were doing sound checks and the dancers were blocking their dance movements.

We found an umbrella table with a great view and had one serious brunch. Tom was extremely happy with his bowl of French Fries, topped with 3 fried eggs and covered with Iberico ham.

There were many folks dressed in fashions from days gone by and the dancing and singing entertained us all the way through brunch.

As the day reached noon the temperature soared and our self-guided walking tour continued till 4 pm when we headed back to check-in. There are lots more stories and picture, but we are beat and it is only 8:00 local. Stay tune for “The Walking Dead – Part II”
